Shabbos in Chevron!

By: Adina Posner and Dina Hirsch

At 9:00 am we were up and about walking over to Mearas Hamachpaila to join the Carelbach minyan to daven shacharis while all the late waker uppers came tothe chabad minyan which started MUCH later... At 10am. It was a beautiful davening, with all the singing coming from the men's side ad all us YTT girls sitting nicely and quietly :).
After shacharis we came back to the Hachnasos Orchim Chevron building with the brave and courageous soldiers watching us with the every step we took! We ate lunch with the chabad shluchim there,   Danny and Batsheva Cohen and their kids. We had the regular Israeli food: loads of hummus, salads, rice, tomato sauce, challah dip, cholent, and our last meat meal! (the cows are getting lucky for the next 9 days!) batsheva and Danny spoke to us about life in chevron and how crazy one must be to live there. Then in the afternoon Simcha Hochbaum (rabbi of the karlebach minyan) took us on a two hour tour/hike of the city. We passed over the Muslim neighborhood but felt safe with the soilders and hashem watching over us. We saw the place where Avraham sat with the malachim. Then we walked up a hill and saw the entire chevron it was such an amazing view. Than we went to the kever of menucha rochel and sang nigunim and tehlim. We walked through a small Jewish neighborhood that was allowed to be built later on.
In this place a kettle had taken 30 bullets by an Arab trying to kill the Jews. We finished our tour on the roof of the Avraham avinu Shul and learning it's history. After a small rest we davened mincha, said perkei avos and walked to the mittele rebbes Shul it was like completing the circle from the Kerr in Ukraine to his Shul in Israel. For havdalah we went to our tour guides house where his autistic son said havdalah, it was amazing. Sarah nachshon came to speak to u about living in Beit haddassah where we had visited. She spoke about the maserias nefesh the woman had to live there even though the soilders didn't let. Than rabbi victor came an put on an incredible magic show. A perfect ending to an amazing shabbos in chevron.
